My name is Julian, and just like you, I am the Financial responsible of our school's internationalization team. I will be your guide through the Finance course and materials. Glad you're here, welcome aboard, new colleague!
Aside from my day-by-day tasks as a school accountant, I am responsible for the financial aspects of internationalization activities.
I’m good with numbers and document management, I have an in-depth understanding of financial principles and legal aspects related to finances.
For each international project carried out by my school (either as a partner or coordinator, involving physical mobilities or online collaboration only), I usually:
-make sure I read, understand and apply all the finance-related contractual conditions issued by the financer, national authorities and project coordinator;
-prepare the financial reporting documents, internal reporting tools and timesheets;
-make sure the grants are spent according to the contractual conditions and the budget categories are respected, all the expenses are eligible;
-gather and check all the financial documents from partners;
-support the Project Coordinator plan the financial resources;
-operate bank transfers, calculate and pay salaries/social contributions according to national laws and contractual provisions;
-prepare the financial reports for the project;
-signal any issue (e.g. over/under-expenditure) to the project manager;
I have studied finances and accounting, and I'm a full-time school accountant.
I sometimes ask for too many documents - even for those which are not required according to the financial conditions in the grant contract.
Here are the key competences we need as financially responsibles, and which you will gain by following the training course that I'm going to guide you through. As you can see none of the skills are at 100% as nobody's perfect and there's always room for improvement, but you've got the idea!
